2022-2023: small works and drawing

Two observations seem due: that a large part of the book publication work is to help me situate my own work against a wider scene; and, second that despite the wider horizon that my collaborators in these projects present a rural practice centered on performance-to-camera with photography is ultimately very constraining.

To the second point, I cheered up a bit when I loosened to think of drawing as performance and engaged with the Draw To Perform network and thought about drawing awarely rather than accuracy. Under the events heading (top of the left hand column) you'll find a couple of entries pointing to Drawing

But to the first point I feel that I have very largely found my place, situated my work in a community of artists who in varying ways share a lot of commonality with me. This latest curation Presence: Performance and Self-Portrait connects the performative self-portrait with the performance to camera which has been a staple for pretty much my whole career.
Further it gave me space to look at the issue of Presence which ties with the presence of the Other, An innovation was to bring all contributors into a discussion space for them to share ideas and stimulus more democratically.
If and when I do another book it must be as a summary of my process and progress with all the benefit of encounters with my fellow contributors.
